Alex Gibney’s film, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Documentary Feature category. The film has had a successful run in the USA, where it took over US$75,000 on just three screens in its opening weekend.
Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room portrays the headline-grabbing inside story of one of history’s greatest business scandals, in which top executives of America’s 7th largest company walked away with over one billion dollars while investors and employees lost everything.
Based on the best-selling book The Smartest Guys in the Room by Fortune reporters Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind and featuring insider accounts and incendiary corporate audio and videotapes, Gibney’s film focuses on the gargantuan personal excesses of the Enron hierarchy and the utter moral vacuum that posed as corporate philosophy.
Redbus Film Distribution will be releasing the film in the UK at the end of April (date to be confirmed).
