(31/05/07) – With the theme "a new cinema for a new audience", the first edition of the Drake International Film Festival (DIFF) will open on 23 June in Caserta, southern Italy. The event, conceived and produced by the director Francesco De Lorenzo, the President of "Darkness Production Ltd.", has been created with the aim of "promoting the diffusion of digital and independent cinema. It is supported by the establishment of the ‘Italian Film Market’, where buyers and sellers from around the world will have the chance to meet and do business." The venue is the Royal Palace ‘Vanvitelliana’ of Caserta (pictured).
According to the organisers, "the Festival will focus its attention on the new and innovative – subjects like the great potential of digital technology – with the aim of encouraging young talent, as well as creating new growth and expansion for the Italian film market."
The main competition includes 12 films – either world premieres or films that have not yet screened in public outside their country of origin or in Italy. The programme also includes another six films from around the world, and an additional competitive section of six films by first or second time directors.
The Drake International Film Festival takes place between 23 and 30 June 2007.
