The 2011 International Film Festival returns to Newport on the 12th November

After the success of the 2010 event, The Film Festival Guild are eagerly awaiting the return of the International Film Festival to The Riverfront Theatre and Cinema, Newport. An intense day with screenings from 10am – 10pm there are opportunities to view new under-the-radar films, and also the chance to meet the cast and crew.

Films featured include the powerful and moving documentary Mary and Bill, about a 90 year old tri-athlete and an 83 year old high jumper. This is followed by In Sunshine or In Shadow, the true story behind the epic world featherweight title match that took place between Barry McGuigan and Eusebio Pedroza.

The afternoon screenings feature an eclectic mix of some of the best student and independent short films from around the world, coupled with some music videos that range from inspiring, impressive, funny and weird to just plain cool. Mother’s Milk, starring Jack Davenport, is a powerful drama based on an award winning novel, which explores the troubled relationships between the members of an English family as they come to terms with a terrible ordeal, a funny and moving tale of family discord. Also showing is Down The Dark Road is the story of a young black man’s search for the truth behind his parents’ disappearance when he was a baby. He has recently learned of their possible fate and must journey through extremely hostile terrain in his quest for the truth.

The 5th Annual Newport International Film Festival is hosted by the Film Festival Guild. Founded in 2006, the Film Festival Guild provides showcases for short films, movies, animations, music videos and screenwriters. Tickets are available from the website.
