(14/12/06) – Perils is a work by experimental filmmaker and poet Abigail Child. Child is known for using found footage and recalling the visual impact of silent cinema, with strong emphasis on montage and the use of sound. In Perils she shows her skill at its best: a perfectly edited satire of a silent movie, with a modern take on gender and social issues, Perils hits the viewer like a first-time film experience, a discovery. Made between 1985 and 1987, its kinetic pace and ticklish use of sound is nothing short of wonderful. Enjoy it – a real treat.
