(24/08/06) The second edition of the London Spanish Film Festival takes place between 08 and 20 September at the Cine Lumière in West London. The festival aims to increase exposure of contemporary cinema from Spain to Londoners and is divided into two sections: recent features, including UK premieres and preview screenings of 12 new works, and a retrospective of the the actress and national star Carmen Maura’s cinema work.
Among the new features to be showcased during the event are one of the year’s top hits in Spain, Princesas, the satire El método starring Eduardo Noriega (El Lobo, Novo), the comedy of manners Inconscientes, the coming-of-age tale 7 virgenes and the first Basque language feature in 18 years, Aupa Etxebeste!, the first full-length Basque-language feature for 18 years. Documentary and animation will represented for the first time, with a portrait of rural Spain El cielo gira and the animated screen version of the classic Basque folk tale Olentzero y el tronco mágico.
Attending the festival to introduce and discuss their films are directors Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón (Una rosa de Francia) and Joaquim Oristrell (Inconscientes). Other guests to be confirmed.
